Travel Channel Trip Builder

Client approached us to develop a complete Trip Planner solution, including a large database of prepared content, editorial content, and user-generated content. The tool will exist as a portal off the main Travel Channel website, and support a wide variety of social-networking components: voting/rating, comments and feedback, content tagging, etc. The tool would also involve a browser plugin/scriptlet to "clip" content from other websites into their Trip Builder content folder. The trip builder itself is drag'n'drop creation, using a "notebook" metaphor, much like cutting clippings from a magazine, and pasting into a folder.

Of course, the tool includes geocoding and mapping, blogging about the trip (before, during and after), publishing itineraries for other people to share, pre-packaged itineraries with on-air tie-ins (eg: take the trip that Anthony Bourdain took on the show).

The project also involved a large data import from a third-party content provider, importing data from Wikipedia and Geonames, integration with procurement partners (for hotels, flights, etc), integration with the Travel Channel CDN, etc.

Our application was intended to reside in a Drupal site being developed at the same time, for a different project. Unfortunately, a change in direction at the client resulted in this project being put on hold before it was deployed to the live site.
